AMS Korea/Japan Trip!!!

Hi Guys,

just wondering if anyone is interested in a school(AMS) trip to Korea or Japan?

for those who don't know, Gary planned one last year, but it was canceled at the last min because the student population was slow to respond (for various reasons) and lengthy red tape got in way of everything else.

some of the students are still interested in going and Gary has told me more than once that He would like to take us to either of the countries because he knows the people there very well ( i supposed he meant that he had the flexibility to conduct exclusive tours for us, in the airport or where-ever else, maybe even the hot spring where he jumped in clothed and got chased out and.... *i shall not digress)

I attached a copy of the itinerary we received last year. Gary said that we can refer to it as a rough guide. He said to expect the price to be around $1500 (economy is improving, airfares going up again), not including own expenditures. Expect to pay a deposit upfront. Deposit will not be refunded if you withdraw without a valid reason after the cut-off date.

I am trying to get the numbers of interested parties early this time around because the school requires a formal application of intent to be submitted 6 MONTHS in advance and , correct me if i am wrong, at least 40 students. Another reason is so that interested parties can have time to save/beg/steal/borrow $ for the trip. One of the reason why many students didn't revert last year was due to lack of $. Yr 3s can use the opportunity to save up their SIP allowances, eg Jetquay interns can be extra accommodating to PAX and maybe collect extra tips from the MBS patrons.

People from my class revert to me via sms.
As for the other class reps, collate the figures from your respective classmates then tell me the total Number + names.

*Please do elaborate if you are interested in going but are holding back due to various reasons, eg. Price too steep, Worried of Korea War 2.0, etc, This helps Gary to plan and accommodate everyone, to the best of his abilities.

Note:
Reverting does not guarantee that the trip will materialize, we have to convince Gary that this time would not be another waste of his effort. Previously, he even called up his pals in the airlines to help bring the cost down. So you can imagine that it's not easy for him to call them up later again to inform that the trip is canceled. So let's help him help us. I'm sure the trip would be cheaper compared to any group tour out there and we would benefit from its flexibility.

You will be informed about the deposit later, if and when Gary starts to plan the trip.

Details of the trip are subjected to change.

Despite the initial dark clouds and light rain, an impressive total of 12 turned up at the Changi Point Ferry Terminal at last Thursday morning. Good thing too, because the weather soon cleared up. Windy, cloudy and bright, it was perfect for cycling at Pulau Ubin (:

So after boarding the bumboat ride to Ubin, renting our bikes for only $5, and distributing the food load, the adventure began! We didn't even use the map from the information counter, but cycled spontaneously hehe. Met a dead end once, and nearly went by a dirt path, but wound up going through a mud trail instead. Lunch was lots of fun, but you have to be there to fully appreciate the disorganized, effective field cooking and cleaning up. The weather got really hot after that, so most of us decided we had enough. It was definitely a great experience for most of us. Next time(yes, we SHALL go again!), let's stay longer though okay!!

Next up for P904 is our much anticipated class chalet from 5- 7 Oct! It's at Aloha Loyang, Terrace 2 and I'm sure the BBQ on the first night promises high spirits and good food. Immediately after that, it's Sentosa on Thursday the 8th, baby!

Primary objective: Having fun.
Secondary objective: Cycling, picnicking and outdoor field cooking

It is recommended for you to bring a 1.5 litre water bottle, fully filled to the brim as there will not be any clean water supply there. Also recommended to wear pants to prevent yourself from becoming a mobile blood bank. As for cash, bring at least 5 PIECES OF $2 NOTES, for more convenient paying of money for the transportation and food. Food will be provided but you're encouraged to being extra food to share around. Those with camera are also encouraged to bring it along with them.

Use a haversack, because it's impossible to enjoy cycling with a sling bag or without your hands free. Wear a cap or sunglasses, if you must. Bring insect repellant too, because Samson is NOT exagerating- commando mosquitoes and sandflies breed there, I swear.

You can find your way to the Changi Point Ferry Terminal by taking bus 29 (from the Tampines Interchange), or bus 2. Alternatively you may take bus 9, 19 or 89 and walk in. The approximately 10-minute bumboat ride to Pulau Ubin is $2.50 per person for a one-way trip.

The 2 concurrent OCP trips to Laos (Pakse and LPRYU) still have a total of 40 vacancies left. The trip is from 4-5th to 14-15th Oct. The actual cost is $1260, but TP is subsidizing half the cost so each student needs only to pay $630.

All training will be provided to student volunteers. It will be a meaningful and heartwarming experience as it has activities which focuses on teaching and helping the needy students in the 3rd world countries.

Benefits:
1) You can use Edusave to pay for the remaining half of the cost, after subsidization.
2) During the SIP/MIP semester, you can be excused from clocking in and out.
3) There is R&R time given to have fun besides volunteering your service there.
4) Added value and content to your Portfolio.

Liyana here, I’ve been upgraded from tagger to blogger hee! :D

The holidays are here and it’s a blissfully long 2 months ahead before school reopens again! Yep, we’re definitely planning to have meet ups, outings and such because we all like having stuff to look forward to, and there’s nothing to study for since we get new subjects next semester (NO MORE FACOM HAH!).

Class Chalet:

Mr Sumarni is giving me $100 to organize a class bonding activity, and due to popular demand, I think the need to organize a chalet is in order (:

It’s our first real kind-of-a-big-deal class thing so COMPULSORY to come, show lots of love and spirit, and have fun ok!! And yeah, I think we need to fork out about 6-8 bucks each. It’s going to be at Pasir Ris, for 3 days and 2 nights. I understand that some of us are working, others are going overseas or have other plans during the hols, so we’ll vote on the date. Voting ends 5th Sept cos we wanna book it fast yeah.

Samson also suggested that we all come up with a list of things we want to do during the holidays, then if it’s appealing enough, we can do it together. So do tag if you’ve got ideas or if you're game for any of the below mentioned yeah!

Here are my ideas; if you tag, I’ll add on yours:

- RSAF Museum visit. It’s in Paya Lebar, has several aircrafts on display and lots of exhibitions about the Air Force history- great for general knowledge or out of interest. Free admission (:

- Cycling at Pulau Ubin. Remember? We were planning this for the term break, but it never actually worked out! Shall we?? Kay, kay, set uh!! :D

- Library Level 4. What?! I LIKE TP! And I’ve never checked out the Lifestyle section before. Heard they have CDs to loan and movies we can watch. Hols are the best time to figure stuff out without looking too noobish in front of other students.

Flight Experience

Hey guys... sorry for this super duper late update on our flight simulator thingy... here are the details...

1. For the 0900 hours slot (& only for this slot), transport is provided but you have to make your way to TP. Be at block 23 latest 0810 hours.

2. For the rest of the slots, there is no transport for you. However, you can take the train to City Hall and make your way to the exit beside the St. Andrews Cathederal, there will be a shuttle service for you there. The service leaves every 20 minutes so better be early.

3. Be at the Flight Experience venue 15 minutes before your slot. If you come late, you wont get your slot.

4. Discuss among the three of you who should fly 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Discuss before entering the simulator so as not to waste time. Once you are in dont waste time just sit and buckle up.

5. HAVE FUN!!!

Hey guys... I know post are very scarce here but you have to understand that we had a camp on Friday and Saturday. So obviously i rested the whole of Sunday.

Anyway this post shall be about the scholarship that Mr sumarni has talked about the other day.

date check: 27 April 2009.

for those of you who have not applied for the scholarship, you guys have exactly 3 days to do so. apparently the closing date is like on 30 April 2009 which happens to be this coming Thursday. so quick get it while we still can..

another thing that i would like to raise up here is about our health. i notice that a few of us are falling ill, especially me. so here are some advices...

sore throat/cough.
this tip was passed down to me by our lovely mentors. pour some honey into a glass/bottle of warm water. stir them till the honey dissolves. and drink them... it helps. try it yourself.

giddy/headache.
for this right i got no professional tips and i have not tried it to prove its effectivity. but you can try. take a tablet or two of paracetomol water, before resting. its best if you sleep after doing so. I'm sure after you wake up, the feeling will be better..

even with all this tips, I'm sure you guys know very well that prevention is better than cure. so here are some useful tips for prevention.

The weather now is insane, so on a hot day like today, drink loads of water to keep yourself hydrated. that's the most basic prevention. another prevention would be to have plenty of rest. bear in mind that everyone needs their 8 hours of sleep no matter what. so sleep early.

Hey guys,

Remember i SMS-ed you guys about the $22? Well here is the thing. The money must be collected and given to OUR lovely Treasurer - Sabrina - by this Thursday. She will then pass the money to Daniel (year 2) on friday where he will pass us our notes after we give him the money. So it is important if you guys give the money on time.

I know that there are a lot of money going around, so for those who needs a lil help, could you please meet our care person - Mr Sumarni - and inform him about it. remember about our class outing to the GYM and SWIMMING POOL together.

Hi guys... Its Kai, your freindly (and ever so enthu) Class rep here... I know it took me some time just to form this blog of ours, but do understand that i have been busy with my own family issues... Anyways i know the blog is very plain and boring, but i will change it soon... The picture of the lights is rather nice and shall remain as the background for our class-photo-montage... As for the contact list its already compiled all i have to do now is to re-confirm with you guys, i don't think i have typed them correctly (write neater next time please).
